Our Frugal Lifestyle

My photo
Passionate about eco-frugality. I used to party hard, clubbing my way from pay-packet to pay-packet. Never getting ahead, just getting by. Then came our much wanted baby with no savings in the bank - only an old car. Changes were made to our lifestyle and we didn't turn back. In the past 6yrs we purchased a flat, found employment, lived below our means, built an emergency fund, purchased a reliable car and saw the financial benefits of our frugal lifestyle. Our only debt is our mortgage. Our aim is to manage our cash flow wisely, pay off our home quickly and eventually work for pleasure, not necessity. Tally of My Ebay Sales

Remember I was trying to make some extra cash for dinner with our 3 Parisian girls and us (3 adults and 1 child)?

The aim was $180 profit to pay the expected restaurant bill. Well I made $144.73 with sale of 7 sold and 2 unsold items after all fees. The restaurant bill was around $140.

Started the Auction at 99 cents and it sold for $31.

Purchased for 50 cents and sold for $20.50.

  • 50's Vintage children's book .99 sold 1.00
  • Ghan Pins 1.50 sold 9.99
  • Wedgwood Pendant .50 cents, sold 20.50
  • Vintage Scrabble Letters 1.00, sold $13.50
  • Vintage 70's Napkin rings 3.00, sold .99 (loss)
  • 1949 Children's book Rainy Day Activities 3.00, sold $31.00
  • Federation era brooch 2.50, sold $99.99
  • Mixed lot of vintage pins 1.50, unsold (loss)
  • Raggedy Andy book 1.00, unsold (loss)

I'm really happy with my sales even thought some items didn't go as high as I expected. I aim to make $120 extra cash again in the next 2 weeks for a pair of sneakers. I will sell some of my clutter and also items bought in second hand stores to resell. The doctor told me to go walking for my injured back in proper sports shoes, so I need to go and by some new ones.

Have you earned yourself any extra money if a fun way?

  1. I sold a brass valet for $40. I had paid $10 for it and enjoyed it long enough. I was not sad to see it go. When an antique dealer snaps something up, you know it was nice as you thought and maybe you underpriced it. The only thing that it was used for was purely decorative. I had a gold shawl with fringe and a green and gold scarf from Yemen draped on it. I did a happy dance with the $40 and knew where I was going to get gas and groceries!

  2. Hi and congratulations.

As a new follower can I ask where you buy your items for sale. You obviously have a good eye for things!

I needed some extra cash for my frugal holiday next week and managed to make £21.50 which will go towards a meal to celebrate my niece's GCSE exam results.

  4. I've started listing things on craigslist in the States. So far, I've sold a few leftover wedding decorations and other random oddities found in our closet. Have probably made around $80 so far.

  6. Practical Parsimony, Thats a great sell! My brooch was also purchased my an antique dealer.

    Hi Saving for Travel,
I purchase items from charity shops, second hand shops and garage sales. I borrow books from the library and trawl Ebay to see what may be sellable, collectable. If I'm not confident - I usually leave it. And all my purchases are very inexpensive. Anything over $4/$5 is expensive for me.

    Hi Miss Piggy Bank,
I've been selling and giving my daughters 0 to size 3 clothes. I've washed and prepared some of them for new baby gift hampers (which I hope to post soon). Hope you sale went well.

    Hi Adoseoftic,
We don't have Craigslist here - But I think Gumtree is similar. I need to use it a bit more for my own stuff that I need to declutter.

    Hi Lisa,
I just found an old pair of sneakers I had forgotten about that got caught up in the watery mess when we were flooded 2yrs ago. I've going to try and scrub them up and see if they still feel comfortable. Hopefully there will not be a need for new sneakers for a few more months.
