Our Frugal Lifestyle

My photo
Passionate about eco-frugality. I used to party hard, clubbing my way from pay-packet to pay-packet. Never getting ahead, just getting by. Then came our much wanted baby with no savings in the bank - only an old car. Changes were made to our lifestyle and we didn't turn back. In the past 6yrs we purchased a flat, found employment, lived below our means, built an emergency fund, purchased a reliable car and saw the financial benefits of our frugal lifestyle. Our only debt is our mortgage. Our aim is to manage our cash flow wisely, pay off our home quickly and eventually work for pleasure, not necessity. Join us on our journey, share insights, tips and tricks to help us and others to get ahead while having a good time.

Tightwads Part 1

Since I can't upload my photos tonight, I thought some of you may enjoy this documentary on You Tube instead of listening to my ramblings.

This is just part 1 - I'm sure you can find the other parts on your own.

What did you think? Very tight compared to me. But I found it very interesting..

  2. Hi, you're right it is interesting. But those people have let saving money takeover their lives. They even acknowledged that themselves, obsessed many said and I think they are right. Imagine ruining your whole holiday worrying about a light left one!

I couldn't imagine ever being that tight unless I had to be due to financial circumstances. Something that interestingly enough none of those people seem to be in dire straits. Interesting.

  3. That was a scary film didn't know whether to be sorry for them or congratulate them, one thing I know I am not one yet.

  4. I've been repeatedly approached by media companies about my lifestyle and money saving. There have been several programmes and all of them have been editted to make the participants look like wierdos. There has been a programme recently called 'scrimpers' and they did the same, they took all the people and made them look crazy - yo have to sign away editorial rights and they pay next to nothing to the participants. I'm sure the subjects of these documentaries have reasons why they are so careful with money, but they are never revealed. I lived hand to mouth until recently so I'm careful, I'm not tightfisted for the sake of it, I just don't know what tomorrow has in store, so I put money aside. I also loath commercialism.

  5. I think these poor souls are missing out on something. I enjoy fresh clean surroundings and I value the health of my skin and hair. I appreciate the use of a toilet so that my environment is not contaminated with human waste. I love to share with my family and friends, even with people I do not know very well. Generosity and reciprocity enable human life to be more pleasurable.

  6. Hey Frugal Queen,
The Non Consumer Advocate was herself filmed for a reality show and blogged about this yesterday. She wasn't chosen and said she got nothing for the 14 hour days. She was hoping for a book deal.
