Our Frugal Lifestyle

My photo
Passionate about eco-frugality. I used to party hard, clubbing my way from pay-packet to pay-packet. Never getting ahead, just getting by. Then came our much wanted baby with no savings in the bank - only an old car. Changes were made to our lifestyle and we didn't turn back. In the past 6yrs we purchased a flat, found employment, lived below our means, built an emergency fund, purchased a reliable car and saw the financial benefits of our frugal lifestyle. Our only debt is our mortgage. Our aim is to manage our cash flow wisely, pay off our home quickly and eventually work for pleasure, not necessity. Join us on our journey, share insights, tips and tricks to help us and others to get ahead while having a good time.

Seed Savers at Snake Bean Community Garden

Last weekend I went from Bed to Garden and met 2 people that were wandering our community garden in the early morning. I racked my brain where I knew them from. Was it work, a party, uni? When they told me their names Jude and Michel, I knew where I knew them from! I am one of their FANS. I watch them on You Tube and have seen the books they have written, as they are from Seed Savers.

They asked if they could film us in our community garden which I was very happy to oblige. I went to their You Tube Channel and there we were amongst many other interesting videos.

They were on foot and only in Darwin for one day as that afternoon they were flying to a permaculture meeting in Lombok. I offered to drive them to the Mulch Pit Community Garden in another suburb so that they could get another glimpse of a Darwin permaculture garden. I knew the outdoor cafe/op shop selling cakes by donation at Frilly's Cafe would be a hive of activity. And I was right. They were able to film plants at The Mulch Pit, buy some second hand threads, bump into old friends and meet new people to collaborate with.

It was was a very eventful morning and we spent 3 hours with them. I learnt a great deal about plants and also about filming with an iPhone as they are great at sharing knowledge. I will be uploading my own videos for you to watch. I already have my first one filmed and will upload tonight.

Have a great day,

Stephanie at Frugal Down Under.

  1. Oooo, what great experience for you and a wonderful surprise. I like the film. Is there anything you can do to increase the volume? I culd barely hear it.

  2. Hi Linda, I can't put up the volume as this was filmed by Seed Savers. However I just checked on my computer and have no problem hearing it when I put up my computer volume mid way.
